Byrna SD product design objectives:
The biggest challenge was to design sufficient stopping power within a compact form factor.
It was imperative for the launcher to be easily storable in a glove box, purse, backpack or jacket pocket. Ensuring quick access during critical moments of need.
THE BYRNA NEEDED TO STOP AN ASSAILANT
The goal was to give ordinary citizens the ability to subdue, disable and deter a would-be assailant without causing permanent injury or death. Numerous test was done on different chemical irritant powders to develop the current range of projectiles.
THE BYRNA NEEDS TO BE READY TO DEPLOY AT A MOMENT’S NOTICE
Byrna developed its patented first-shot, pull-pierce technology. This allows the CO2 canister to remain in the launcher, unpunctured, until needed.
When the trigger is pulled, in fire mode, the CO2 cylinder is punctured and the projectile is fired simultaneously. This technology allows the Byrna to always be in a ready state.
DISTANCE EQUALS SAFETY
The Byrna launchers effective accuracy is 12m on a 15cm target and 20m on a 45cm target.

BUILD A QUALITY PRODUCT
The Byrna products are sophisticated pieces of engineering. Traditional handguns have approximately 35 parts, the Byrna SD has more than 110 parts.
Byrna launchers goes through various QC Steps to assure quality before the product is qualified and signed off.
